I know, and I'm sorry. Working on a new post, but more pressing is the deadline for my already late manuscript. I'll rejoin you here when I can.

Interesting note here on Moore's stolen film copy of Sicko that mass circulated on the web--that the FBI doesn't want to look into, according to Michael Moore.

I put up some links to stats if you're curious about how U.S. medicine is the leading cause of death as well.

Moore claims below that it was likely an attempt to slow or hamper the first week's box office, because that determines whether the theaters actually allow it to run in larger numbers. Stealing the copy probabaly contributed to a little dent in that snowball effect.

below is a cut/paste:

This is quite fascinating, because Moore did not release this copy.

You are literally watching a stolen copy, as Moore describes below. It seems that since the 'health care industry' with its untold billions had a great incentive to have this film stolen, after all they are around 15% of US GNP I read somewhere....

A big game of hardball is going on around this film, since that master copy of Sicko was stolen and placed on the web BEFORE the film's release. The quote at the top of that page seems innocuous and seems to encourage the impression that this quote came with the Sicko release on the web. Actually, no. That quote is from what happened with previous film Fahrenheit 9-11, and not a specific quote relating to Sicko. Most don't understand that a master copy of the Sicko film was stolen out from under him, presumably to stop the first weekend box office stats from being "too high", because that is what determines how many more theaters it gets, in a cascading fashion, in subsequent weeks, as Moore describes. Someone was attempting to stop the cascade.

Moore contacted the FBI noting that his film was stolen, though the FBI doesn't want to investigate the crime.

As Moore writes:

"If you haven't seen "Sicko," go see it tonight. I want this film to have as much impact as it can. How well it does in terms of attendance this first weekend will determine how many other towns get to see it. It's all about the "first weekend box office" with the studios these days. If it does well in the 400 theaters it's in, they will put it in more theaters next weekend. And trust me, the White House and their friends in the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries know this, too. ****It's no surprise to me that an original master of "Sicko" was stolen and widely distributed on the Internet before the film's release. I'm one of the few people in the movie business who doesn't believe in prosecuting teenagers who want to share music or films (although I make my movies to be seen on a big screen and that's how I hope people see them!). I called up Mr. Bush's FBI last week. I wanted to know if they had asked themselves the first question any cop would ask about this particularly unique theft:

"Who has a vested interest in destroying the first weekend of Michael Moore's new film by stealing his movie's master copy and placing it on the internet?"

Needless to say, they showed little interest in investigating who's behind this. That's ok. I realize what's at stake for them and I accept that this is a battle with serious consequences. The drug and insurance companies have dumped over a half billion dollars in the pockets of Congress and the White House in the last 10 years. This movie may end up being their worst nightmare.

But here's the good news: There's more of us than there are of them. So, it's up to the rest of you to help me help this movie have a great opening weekend. If over a half million people come out to see it by tomorrow night, the studio will take that to mean it should be in more cities and more theaters. Let's make that happen. And I promise you, if you go, you'll see a movie unlike any other you've seen this year. Last night, the industry polled the people coming out of "Sicko." 93% said they would "strongly recommend 'Sicko'" to their friends and family. The pollster said he'd never seen a number that high (the norm for most movies is about 45%). It was a heartening piece of news.

Thanks again and see ya tonight at the movies!

Yours,
Michael Moore

And following the money trail itself for more motive to steal and release the film, leads back to the government itself, as argued here, based on who really owns the stocks to these pharmaceutical companies:

CAFR1 NATIONAL RELEASE - 07/03/07
To: Michael Moore
Date: July 3rd 2007
email: mmflint@[SNIP].com

Michael:

From your letter: "An Awesome First Night for "Sicko" Saturday, June 30th, 2007" you say:

"Needless to say, they showed little interest in investigating who's behind this. That's ok. I realize what's at stake for them and I accept that this is a battle with serious consequences. The drug and insurance companies have dumped over a half billion dollars in the pockets of Congress and the White House in the last 10 years. This movie may end up being their worst nightmare."

Well, Michael, a half a billion dollars is pocket change compared to what federal and local governments made from the return on their investments from the same drug (pharmaceutical) companies. Government stock ownership of those companies, in composite totals equates to 60% - 75% ownership depending on what drug company you look at.

You have left behind and out of your documentary the clear and overpowering "motive" behind the acts coming from government. That being: They use tax revenue (taken from the public) to funnel billions and tens of billions of dollars into those drug companies "each year" and thus inflate their own return from investment ownership of those same companies without one ($1) ever going back directly to benefit those same taxpayers.. In fact government's investment policy and the way government funnels tax revenue into the hands of those companies severely drains the pockets of those same tax payers.

We are not talking an investment return of a "half a billion dollars", but a return equal to within those ten years of well over a trillion or two dollars.

Government's main profit centers in the last five years by investment are in order of return accomplished; the oil companies, then pharmaceutical, then banking, and insurance. A good showing of holdings from just one government investment account out of thousands would be the holdings listed as of 2001 within and from the NY State Retirement fund CAFR. http://cafr1.com/STATES/NEWYORK/RETIREMENT/NYRINV2001.PDF

I suggest that you look at what holdings roll out the money for our government. No grey area here, only fact. Returns of 100% to 500%. Then take a look at where the same ended in 2006. http://cafr1.com/STATES/NEWYORK/RETIREMENT/NYRINV2006.PDF

Here is your primary motive and the underlying REALITY of governmental policy for the last twenty years, they (government) profit from pushing drugs, they profit from higher oil prices, and they profit when banks and insurance companies roll over the money. Profit by a few extra trillions of dollars when you connect the dots and look at the assembled pieces of the puzzle. Oh, but then that's "Our Government at Work", aren't you proud?

A few hundred thousand people will see this communication.
.
You should not have any questions now on why government limits the cost liability to insurance companies and continues to dump massive taxpayer money down the throats of the pharmaceutical companies / health care industry at exorbitant and inflated costs when the taxpayer is paying for it through program entitlements; they are protecting and expanding their (government's) own bottom line investment profits at taxpayer expense.

The upper echelon government boys and their minions love to entertain the public by keeping them looking in right field at fluff or non-consequential drama as they conduct business as usual in left where the massive money rolls within a created and maintained wall of silence.

You now know the big factor that drives government policy, and Michael, if you exclude this overpowering FACT in the future, I and we all will know who you truly work for.

Sincerely,

"GROSS" INCOME of government is now 1/3rd "TAX" income and 2/3rds NON-TAX income derived from: return on INVESTMENTS and money generated from government Enterprise projects.

While agreeing that Moore softpedals and chooses to dissemble on a lot of things (particularly in his 9-11 film), Sicko is still a good film to see.

Here's some medical horror stories to read about:

U.S. MEDICINE HAS BECOME THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE U.S.

more on the medicine bit here:

Modern Medicine Is the LEADING CAUSE of Death instead of Health
17:12 Apr-19 2007

Anywhere from around 750,000 to 1 million killed by 'proper treatment' each year in the U.S.--far more important than accidental gunfire death rates we hear so much about, though very little about the super killers in white coats. I thought someone would want to see both those links.

Mark...I wondered where you got to. If you are ever inclined to explore the misplaced faith in modern medicine try googling "abtox".

As far as just what is it the FBI are gonna do about it..here's a link that never stops giving.. that's if you really are interested...

At least when these inmates start throwing their shit around, you need not worry that your sense of smell is just a short excursion away from your no fixed redress.
