The board is up, but the server is down. Intermittently, anyway. (It's up now.) The host has been having problems tonight apparently unrelated to our own.

It's not new and improved, it's fragile and sluggish. But it's there, the data's okay, and if things don't improve quickly with this host we'll find another one.

With no offense intended toward the forum nerds - and, indeed, an admission that I am a bit too much of a dork to ever be bothered with learning the ins and outs of navigating such forum communities, with her oh-so-many topics and threads:

The difference between my interest in the author's book/postings/articles and said forum is astonishingly vast. More specifically, I've yet to read with as much interest and enthusiasm any other "blog"; on the other hand, I'd rather be waterboarded than RI-boarded.

Summarizing: Rigorous Intuition is to the black-hole that is the World Wide Web, what stating my opinion nobody could care less about here is to looking at the RI-Board interface.

Board seems to be down again. Can't get through, even through a proxy, which gives me a message that "The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Anybody else, or is it just me?

Thursday night's interruption was a widespread failure of the host, not on account of something we did or didn't do. FWIW, we're back up.

Jeff....

I think your book is great but what is with all the words spelled wrong?

The title page, copyright page, publisher's foreward, acknowledgments, and the back cover all have words spelled wrong.

Has there been a second printing yet?

AUSTRALIA'S worst locust plague in 70 years has marched into metropolitan Melbourne as federal and state authorities met to consider their plan of attack.

Federal Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig today met with ministers and officials from NSW, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland to discuss the response to the swarms.

Senator Ludwig said the response so far had been "extremely efficient", but with the pests taking to the wing the time had come to discuss realistic approaches to controlling the swarms.

There had been an increase in reports of fledgling or young adult locusts, with swarms even spotted in Melbourne, he said.

"There has been a sudden influx of locusts into parts of the Melbourne metropolitan area," Senator Ludwig said in a statement.

"More localised movement will occur in all affected areas during the coming weeks, before significant long-distance swarm migration is likely to occur."
Spraying swarms was "inefficient, less effective and costly", and potentially dangerous if done from the air, Senator Ludwig said.

"However, we recognise the urgency in tackling this problem and treatment of swarms will be considered in extreme circumstances," he said.

"It is absolutely critical that landholders continue to monitor locust outbreaks because treatment on the ground before locusts swarm is the most effective tool."

I just watched 2001 again...Typical Bow-tie bull shit! Sounds like you spun a rod bearing and you would have to turn the crank, resize the rods and replace the bearings. Might be cheaper and quicker to replace the engine, but I warn you Jeff, GM charges as much for a crate four cylinder as they do for a V8!

Just sayin.

Floyd Smoots says: Unlike "Davidly", I still read the discussion board regularly in order to pick up on news that doesn't "make it" anywhere else. I know that the current board members don't care a whit for my opinion any more, but here it is anyway. There is nothing more IRRITATING, when following a discussion in order to LEARN something, than to encounter an MTV-like embedded MUSIC video. We've ALL been affected and influenced by several generations of recorded music. That's a given. However, quoting a favorite line from a song (with attribution) is sufficient to make one's point. I, for one, NEVER sit thru the whole video, and then try to wonder "What was the poster's point in linking to YET ANOTHER lame-ass SONG?". Again, Jeff, I know that no one left alive there at RI gives two whits about MHO, but I just thought you all might want to see how utterly STUPID it looks to someone who is actively searching your board for a little bit of truth.

Can't remember my login password, and I'm locked out, so I direct this, here, at no one in particular. But this is a knowledgeable bunch.

Today at work, some young Christians tried to proselytize and be-Christ me. I was polite and listened to their arguments, humored them a bit, but sent 'em off at last.

Afterwards, I thought, "I should have told them that Christianity is a homosexual sun-worshipping death-cult" but they seemed sincere, so it would've been mean.

But that reminded me. There used to be some really incoherent rant online, years ago, about how Christianity and Jesus are "queer" - lots of CAPS and bad English (Russian author?) and I think there were some end-of-the-world ramblings in it, too. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

It's a classic, and I wanted to see how it reads now that I've read a bunch of OTHER crazy stuff.

Hi folks

Haven't been here for a while. I'd like to ask Jeff if he ever saved an GeoSatimage he posted of Hurricabe Katrina - in this picture, you could clearly see the hurricane gathering over the Gulf of Mexico, and around the South and Eastern edges, there were five distinct "fingerprint" patches of unusual heat signature (bright red) which seemed to be pushing the storm towards New Orleans - this image prompted some talk about the use of HAARP as a weather control apparatus. If that images still exists anywhere, I'd love to be able to access it - the original GeoSat image was changed only a day or two after the article was published. Any ideas on that one? I'd sure like to see that image again - it was most interesting. If anyone can steer me to it, I'd ne most grateful. Thanks in advance.

Best wishes

Fructedor

Stephen, I'm surprised he didn't lump Star Wars into that analysis, because I believe there is a great deal of overlap with some contrast, of course. Both works, Star Trek and Star Wars, always left me feeling depressed. My thinking was "is this as good as it will ever get?" I know to some, especially the Elite, it's a perpetual paradise, but to me, it's a perpetual metaphorical Hell. The comments to that first thread were interesting, especially the one about Star Wars and Star Trek being Astro-Colonialism. That's how I always viewed it, and hence the despair. Of course, that's all obsolete now. The New Frontier is not Space in the sense of Outer Space, but rather Cyber Space, and no doubt, once a select few are uploaded into it, so too will be Cyber-Colonialism. A Virtual Hell of which I want no part, and therefore I will be Left Behind.
